Kangaroos are part of the scientific genus Macropus and were widely thought to fart less than cows. So, scientist thought that putting Kangaroo gut bacteria into cows would lower their methane production. Dr. Adam Munn at the University of Wollongong put kangaroos in sealed rooms and measured their farting rate. He discovered that kangaroos fart as much as other animals their size. Sadly, this likely means that there is no special bacteria in their guts that would be the key to lowering global warming. Instead, food passes through kangaroos very quickly and gets digested in the first stomach. This causes a farting rate that is similar to that of donkeys or horses that is not as special as previously thought.
Side note: since what I do no longer seems so interesting to write about, and I now read a lot, mama suggested that I write about something I've read that was interesting. So, today's post was about kangaroo farts. Wednesday, August 8, 2018

Lost on Mud Island
Mud Island (by Edward): view from the opposite shore |
Yours faithfully,
Edward -- and the nine cows.

Note: It might seem like this comes form nowhere. So mama said to mention we've read 'In Search of the Castaways' by Jules Verne (and 5 other books). In this one a group of people find a bottle in a shark. The bottle contains the same letter written in three languages, and they follow its lead to search for Captain Grant on the 37th parallel. They end up going around the globe on this parallel and almost dying a bunch of times, while Captain Grant and two of his shipmates live on a very nice island for two years with three goats, bread fruit, and seeds to plant their own crops. They build a nice house from their ship where they wait until they are eventually found. Anyhow, since David and I speak three languages, we wrote a letter from Mud Island in Chizatau. We only own two goats and three kids, but Devina might grow enough to be milked next year or the year after next.
